Derecho a la memoria (2021): Archivos, mujeres, géneros y derechos humanos. Published by Archivo Nacional de Chile. Spanish.

Archivo Nacional de Chile (ed.). Derecho a la memoria: Archivos, mujeres, géneros y derechos humanos. Santiago de Chile: Archivo Nacional de Chile, 2021.

Derecho a la memoria brings together a set of critical perspectives on archives as sites of power, resistance, and historical construction. The publication foregrounds the role of archival practices in shaping collective memory, with particular emphasis on women, gendered experiences, and human rights frameworks. Through interdisciplinary contributions, the book examines how archives can both reproduce institutional silences and serve as tools for reparation, visibility, and justice, especially in Latin American contexts marked by political violence and social struggle.

Featured chapter

Yohanna M. Roa — INES – Matriarchiva: Intersectional Expanded System / Sistema Interseccional Expandido

In this chapter, Yohanna M. Roa proposes Matriarchiva as an expanded, intersectional archival system that rethinks the archive beyond institutional containment. Her contribution articulates a methodology grounded in feminist, decolonial, and embodied practices, where memory is not only preserved but activated through performance, textile structures, and collective knowledge systems. The chapter positions the archive as a living, relational space—capable of restoring erased genealogies and re-centering women’s embodied histories within broader socio-political narratives.
